Miscarriage and COVID

COVID has affected every aspect of our lives, especially our reproductive lives. All hospital systems are allowing birthers to have only one support person and most are not allowing the support of a birth doula. Support people are not allowed in most OB offices now to support the pregnant person during prenatal visits. And most facilities are not allowing a support person or partner in ultrasound appointments. I understand that preventing the spread of COVID is a necessity, however, what happens when that pregnant person gets bad news?

Imagine going to a routine appointment alone and your provider can’t find your baby’s heartbeat.

Imagine having your routine 20 week ultrasound alone and finding out your baby has a disorder such as spina bifida or worse, you find out your baby has passed away in your womb.

How do you cope with that news? How do you drive home? How do you tell your partner?

This is the reality of pregnant people everywhere.

If you are a pregnancy person or planning to become pregnant in the near future, this effects YOU. I encourage you to take a stand. Call and write your providers, hospitals, and even local officials. When it comes from the patients it means a whole lot more. Please become an active voice; things will never change if we don’t stand up for our rights to have support.
